This wall goes completely around the city of Old Jerusalem. The "Old Jerusalem" was the city in existence when Jesus was born. Everyone lived within the city wall then. There are eight gates into Old Jerusalem. A "New" gate was build after the time of Jesus and it is still called the "new" gate.
